|  | | On July 21st of this year, President Obama signed into law the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The 2,300 page Act was created in response to the greatest financial crisis in America since the Great Depression. This seminar will provide an explanation of what may be gleaned from the Act for purposes of advising clients, and will identify the unanswered issues resulting from this landmark law. Mr. Chiacchio is an attorney whose practice is located in Center City Philadelphia. Following law school, Mr. Chiacchio served as a law clerk to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and went on to spend a number of years at one of the nation's largest law firms, based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before opening his own law firm. Mr. Chiacchio's practice includes, among other substantive areas of the law, representing financial institutions and their employees in customer disputes. These representations take place in state and federal courts as well as arbitration hearings held by FINRA. Mr. Chiacchio also handles formal inquiries made by the Securities and Exchange Commission and FINRA as well as banking related disputes. Our guest speakers will discuss some of the recent changes that will impact accountants, auditors, and legal professionals in the near future. In this course, we will discuss the mortgage default and foreclosure picture and how recently enacted Federal and State legislation and Regulatory changes will impact accounting and auditing procedures. We will also review the principles behind the direct method of reporting cash flows from operating activities, and examine the convergence of the IASB and FASB on changes to reporting cash flow. Finally, we will review the mathematics of the audit risk model so that participants can more accurately assess inherent business risks. John S. Pavlovsky, Jr. has an accounting and tax practice servicing individuals and small businesses with accounting advice, business consulting, tax return preparation and tax planning. John has worked for the Department of Banking and Insurance as a Field Manager responsible for supervision of all examinations of licensees reporting to the Office of Consumer Finance, spent five years as a Vice President and Commercial Lender with First Washington State Bank, served for seven years as Chief Financial Officer for Fiserv Solutions, Inc., and spent fourteen years in the audit group of KPMG specializing in Financial Institutions. John was responsible for supervising the audits of approximately 40-50 small to large size clients, most of which were publicly traded companies. John also has been an adjunct professor at Rider University for twenty-five years teaching Intermediate and Advanced Accounting classes. Charles R. Wiedman, CPA has been a self-employed accountant and tax practitioner since 1983. Charles spent fifteen years as a part-time technical report writer for a regional CPA firm.
